Social Services Network’s Walk for Aging Positively

About the walk:

As a not for profit organization, SSN’s objective is to create an inclusive society where the dignity of our aging population is maintained through promotion of independence, social inclusion and volunteerism. The Walk for Aging Positively is an annual event held by the Social Services Network (SSN).  This is the third annual event. This year SSN is hosting a virtual Walk for Aging Positively, our flagship community event on November 29, 2020.

To increase our capacity to support the community, we have partnered with charities under the umbrella of “Groomanthropy”, an organization established in response to the pandemic to raise the required resources to help sustain charity organizations with their respective programs and services. This year, the Walk for Aging Positively, is the culmination of a series of a larger event that we are launching in collaboration with Diabetes Canada, Second Harvest and Michael Garron Hospital Foundation. These agencies have joined forces with SSN to raise resources, promote each other’s services to their members and pool all the funds to be shared equally amongst the partners.

To promote a healthy and active lifestyle, all participants will have an opportunity to complete their “virtual walk” anytime between November 14th and November 28th. To celebrate the community, we have requested all who participate to share photos with us so that we may post them on walk day. We are encouraging individuals to walk with their partners, friends, family members and neighbours in their respective bubbles to ensure social distancing. Keeping healthy while supporting others is a win – a win for all.

Partnership with GROOMANTHROPY

This year funds towards the walk will support Groomanthropy. Groomanthropy is a campaign to raise money for four charities that increases the quality of life of people we may know. Groomanthropy asks you to support their partners by donating your unused beauty budget.

Groomanthropy’s partners include: Social Services Network (SSN), Diabetes Canada, Michael Garron Hospital Foundation and Second Harvest.

This collaboration has been in partnership with Groomanthropy, an organization created during the COVID-19 crisis to raise funds to support leading charities across Canada.

All four current partners under this collaboration are working to raise funds through each of their own established events, promoting each other’s services to their members and pooling all the funds to be shared equally among the partners.

  • What is the walk window?

The walk window is the period which we ask all registered walkers to complete the walk. This is between November 14, 2020 to November 28, 2020. You can walk around your neighbourhood, at a nearby park or track or anywhere else you wish to walk. While completing the walk, we ask that you take photos and videos and share them with us. We will then showcase these videos and photos on walk day during our presentation time.

  • What will happen on walk day?

On walk day we will have a virtual event where we will have some special presentations, speakers and entertainment for the registered participants, sponsors and partners. The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2020.
